Broad Leaf EvergreenBOXWOOD, GREEN VELVET- is a low growing broadleaf evergreen with a rounded shape. Boxwood has small shiny green leaves throughout the four seasons. They have been very popular the past few years and have been a replacement for other evergreen shrubs- especially yews and junipers. Boxwood will thrive under shady conditions and are deer resistant. Green velvet grows around 3’ and can be sheared smaller as a shrub or mixed in the landscape or as a hedge. Green Mountain grows up to 4’ tall and is more upright than Green Velvet.
HOLLY, BLUE GIRL/ BLUE BOY- is the hardiest of the evergreen hollies. Several years ago, this holly took the place of Oregon Grape Holly to a large extent because it exhibited red Christmas like holly berries (Oregon Grape Holly has blue berries). With green leaves and red berries Blue Holly stands out in the winter. Blue boy pollinates the Girl holly for a good berry set. Grow about 4’x 4’ in northern Michigan. Attracts birds and is deer resistant. |
