Ornamental GrassesBLUE FESCUE, This is a small grass, with only a 6 to 12” mature height, and similarly small spread. Blue Fescue is a clump-forming grass. The more sun it receives, the deeper blue its thin leaves will become. It is an evergreen and maintaining its color through the winter.
BLUE OAT, This is an ornamental grass that offers steel-blue foliage. It reaches a height of 2’ and a width of 3’, and it resembles blue fescue. Blue Oat likes full sun and need to be watered regularly. The color is stunning in the garden. FOUNTAIN GRASS, The cascading, narrow leaves on this plant have a fountain shape. Light Tan blooms resembling foxtails emerge in late July and turn pinkish brown for fall. Fountain grass maintains its lovely leaves and flowers through January, making it the perfect four season plant. DWARF HAMLIN, This grass has a fluffy, buff-colored plumes arching above green foliage. Often used for contrast among shrubs or as a back drop. The dark green blades will turn a golden-rust color in the fall. Grows 2-3’ and 2-3’ width. GIANT SILVER, This is a large perennial grass that can grow up to 13’ and lends a tropical effect to any landscape. The flowers start as red clusters, mature to white and then dry and persist into winter. It is a giant in the garden and provides year-round interest and remains standing through heavy snowfall. It is great as a specimen or as a border, screen. Provide a growing area in full sun or part shade and with a moist soil. KARL FORESTER, Feather reed grass is a perennial ornamental grass with a distinctly vertical presence in the garden. The foliage grows 2-3’. But only 18” wide and even the flowers plumes that rise to 5’ remain stiffly erect. PAMPAS, Erianthus makes an excellent specimen plant all year. Airy, white plumes form in mid-summer over green leaves that turn to bronze then red in the fall. Plants can reach up to 10’. They like full sun. |
