We’d also like to tell you about some of the exciting spring events occurring at Dobias Landscaping and Garden Center, Inc. During the month of May, we carry our largest inventory of shrubs, trees, and perennials. Shipments of our annuals arrive the week before Mother’s Day. Some of our annuals are potted in beautiful combination pots that can be used on your patio or deck. Vegetables are potted in larger pots that can be used in container gardening. Our potting soil for our vegetables and flowers will be an all-organic mixture of soil media with an organic fertilizer. Additionally, our flowering crabs, flowering plum, and pear trees are blooming and our other large ornamental shade trees look great. We have fruit trees and garden seed. We have a new play area for young children to play while their parents or grandparents browse through our plant selling areas and our poly houses of plants. The play area has a playhouse for small children. Our fields and garden center have areas where we grow several varieties of shrubs, trees and perennials. When several different kinds of plants are grown in close proximity, more beneficial insects are attracted to these areas. These beneficial insects help keep the population of destructive insects down to minimum levels. Even though we are certified to spray insecticides and herbicides, we do very little spraying in our nursery to kill insects because spraying would destroy these beneficial insects. We also chose flowering crab apple trees and other plant varieties that are the most disease resistant and will eliminate plants from our inventory that we find have disease problems. We strive to use integrated pest management (IPM), which means using different strategies to manage plant pests, so that acceptable yield and quality can be achieved with the least disruption to the environment.
